What is 4D ultrasound?
4D ultrasound adds time or motion to a 3D image. Hence the result is a moving 3D image. 2D images are the pictures produced for your diagnostic ultrasound and although they can be seen well by sonographers, they are often difficult to recognise to the untrained eye. 3D images are images taken in a 3D format; however they are usually at a higher resolution than 4D images.

Is 2D/3D/4D ultrasound safe?

Studies done on the effect of ultrasound have shown that this modality does not currently present any risk to the mother or the unborn baby. These studies have been undertaken for over 30 years. We recommend that should you have any concerns that you consult with your obstetrician, managing GP or other independant health professions such as Sonologists, Sonographers or Midwifes to address any concerns that you may have before booking with us.

Who will be performing the ultrasound?
Your ultrasound scan will be conducted by our qualified and accredited sonographers. All have been trained in 3D/4D imaging techniques and have extensive obstetric experience.

Does this replace my 12 week or 18-20 anatomy week scan?
No, these scans are non diagnostic and voluntary. Please follow your doctor’s instructions and ensure that all diagnostic ultrasound scans including the 12 week and the 18-22 week anatomy scans are performed at a dedicated and accredited diagnostic ultrasound facility. Our scans are used to enhance the bonding experience of family and friends with the unborn baby. Before we perform our bonding ultrasound we require that the 18-22 week anatomy report, CD, photo or films be produced that indicates that a diagnostic ultrasound has been performed for Package A or B. For Package C we require evidence that a dating or 12 week nuchal scan has been done.

Is this scan covered by Medicare or private insurance?
As this is a non diagnostic service it is not covered by Medicare. At the present time this form of scanning is not covered by private health insurance.

How do I pay?
Eftpos, MasterCard or VISA. We will accept cash; however it must be the correct amount for the package chosen.

What happens if you see an abnormality?
As we are a non diagnostic service we do not search for fetal abnormalities, nor do we do any detailed studies into the fetal anatomy, for instance the heart.  This will be done in your Medicare covered 12 week or 18-22 week ultrasound scans at an accredited diagnostic ultrasound facility. If however an eventuality arises where an anomaly is detected our staff will explain what we see to you, and with your permission, notify the doctor that is managing your pregnancy.

Do I need a referral?
No, this is a non diagnostic scan. For our Package A and B, we do require that you bring in a copy of your 18-22 week anatomy ultrasound report, or evidence that this has been done i.e. photos or CD or films. For Package C we require evidence from a dating or 12 week nuchal scan as it is our requirement that you have these examinations prior to using our service.

What is my preparation and paperwork?
Unlike your diagnostic scan we do not want you to have a full bladder. However we would like you to be well hydrated 2 – 3 days prior to the scan. On making your appointment we will email our consent form and customer information sheet. If possible fill this out prior to your appointment so that we can maximize your bonding time with the baby. The Ultrasound Nursery adheres to the Privacy Act 1998 and our Privacy Policy is available on request.

Can I buy a Gift Certificate?
Yes we have gift certificates available for all of our packages and they make wonderful presents! They are valid for 1 year from purchase and cannot be used after 32 weeks. The gift certificates are non refundable and are not able to be exchanged for cash under any circumstances.

When is the best time to have the 3D/4D ultrasound on the baby?
We have found that 26-32 weeks is the optimal time for doing these scans on the baby, however we are very happy to scan your baby after 16 weeks and up to 35 weeks, after you have had a diagnostic ultrasound scan. We encourage that twin pregnancies should come in at 25-26 weeks.

Will my baby look like those advertised and present in the media?
The Ultrasound Nursery will endeavour to produce the highest grade images that can be achieved on the day. Those images that are seen in much of the media are produced in the most optimal of circumstances however all images on our Website, brochures and Facebook are from scans performed at The Ultrasound Nursery.
The Ultrasound Nursery cannot guarantee images advertised or seen in the gallery will be also available to you with the same sharpness and clarity. Factors such as maternal habitus, the hydration of the mum, fetal and placental position and fluid around the baby will affect the sound transmission. These will all play a part in image outcome.
We will aim to get the best pictures of your baby and for you to enjoy the experience of watching and bonding with baby.

Can you tell us the baby’s gender?
If you’d like to know the sex and of course the baby is not shy and wants to show us, we’ll happily reveal the gender. If you want a surprise, we will avoid looking at the specific area of interest and produce beautiful images of the rest of the baby.

Can I bring guests?
Of course, we can seat up to seven adult guests in comfort. Children are very welcome. During the scan we require that no video cameras are utilised, and that photos can be taken of Mum, Dad, family and friends, but not the sonographers.

When will I get my CD, DVD and photos?
CDs and DVDs will be available at the end of the scan. As we print out our photos as high quality images, we will mail them to you within 5 business days.

As a courtesy 24 hours notice of cancellation would be appreciated. You may be asked to provide a full non refundable upfront package payment should you cancel under 24 hours or not turn up without contacting us and wish to make another booking. A non refundable upfront package payment is also payable should you wish to rebook due to a male sonographer being present at the scan when the customer wishes to have a female sonographer. This request needs to be raised at the time of the booking by the customer and is not the responsibility of the Ultrasound Nursery.
